It floated,it floated,it floats .. ALWAYS!That's the chorus daily weather for Paris France!
Barefoot in quarantine sunscreen promotion, cashmere sweaters, freezing my daily mood ... looks like a November 1.Then the most unexpected tweet Trierweiler,I decided to go to Thailand, especially in Bangkok, recognized worldwide for its PDF "stone of madness".
12H travel later,here I am in Bangkok,mecca Pourvuquecabrille.
The excitement is such that I forget the usual gray sky of the Asian metropolis.I think only one thing: making the marathon gems!Because YES,before being THE destination "Sea,Sex and Sun" Bangkok is the international hub of colored gemstones.
The size of Soho yorker, district stones and workshops Bangkok is located in the district of Silom Road near the Chao Phraya River.
My imagination of young French,I saw composed of small shops or from street vendors offered freshly stones from the mine. The truth is quite different since the trading of precious stones is very organized. The gems are cut, graded, weighed and sold in huge Mall in the U.S. air-conditioned.
A loss of sight,Sri Lankan,Indian,Thai,Burmese sell you on their stand of jade ,sapphire ,ruby ,emerald ,aquamarine ,citrine ,amethyst ,spinel ,moonstone ... Cohabitation between merchants and small stones those of the great jewels is strangely well in stages.
This is also why a lot of beautiful houses there have buying offices since all price ranges are represented.
No history of " shopper of hysteroscopic stones "in my record,so I put on sneakers,my top off-road,down a pint of freshly squeezed orange juice and jump in a cab to: malls gemstones.
My first day is going to walk the floors without missing a stand. On a business trip,I walk, run, talk, laugh, sending emails, phone ... at a breakneck pace.
The second day,my legs are tired but the spirit always passionate.I then began to ask the price of the stones that interest me."For you, miss Bretty $ 15/cts" replied Thai in English sometimes incomprehensible.
The third day,I watched so many stones that I have the tired look of "DSK".
This day is for shopping. But before the stones that I spotted for two days,I have great difficulty to display the "poker face" necessary to the art of negotiation. So for damn damn,I take it off, without really discussing.
It was then that I sympathize with Indian likelyhood sharp in trading stones. His office is on the 55th floor of the tower, after a security lock.
I enter,I removed my shoes and sit on a small chair that was presented to me.The mailed to every corner of Wall cameras literally freeze me like a post.No way to yawn or to restyle as it might seem suspect. Then I joined the merchant.Big smile and broad shoulders,he served me a drink while wondering what a small French just do in the area.I wanted to tell him "But how? It's MOI pourvuquecabrille! "
After a few minutes, here he takes me rows of incredible gemstones! My heart beats like a metronome!
Then comes the time for negotiation and I have low terror that excites. And yes,the price of the stones this time, much more so.Then I put watching the bottom of my glass,as if to read the future."Is he honest?".And yes, even if the trading of precious stones based on trust,Thailand remains the largest importer of synthetic stones.
But in this case,no question of leaving his tools gemologist since it would call into doubt the word of a great merchant. After several minutes of serious discussion,we agree to a business meeting in Paris.I OUF great escape!

I enjoyed Laos alot2005-03-04 10:48:03 by wat2dowat2do
I went in 2001. Bought a "package" from a Bangkok travel agent that included visa for crossing Thai Laos border up at Chang Rai, a boat trip down the Mekong for a few days, overnight accomodation at a french owned riverbank hotel, meals and dropped us off at Luang Prabang. The travel agent also included air tickets from Luang Prabang back to BKK. Not really an organised package tour, so to speak... wonderful experience, but I would warn against hiking or travelling in the back country or in a small group. Read warnings about land crossings. Stick with an organised tour in a mainstream area.
If you're in the region anyways, tack on a few days in Siam Reap in Cambodia. You can fly in and out of BKK. It was as memorable as Laos for different reasons. (architechure vs the people)
