THAILAND 2006 Thursday, November 16, 2006 Thailand! This time we choose to take the shuttle to go to the airport of Malpensa, it is certainly much more comfortable, you do not have the problem of the stand or to alert runners and friends to accompany you, and then the service of Comazzi that serves the Ossola and the Verbano is a kind of car conductor, the driver is waiting for you to return even postponing the departure of the vehicle in case of flight delays, some times are a bit 'indicative you never know exactly when the medium is present, however, the certainty it gets there. It's drizzling here in Mergozzo the sky is misty and sad and judging by the forecasts that we peeked over the internet we do not expect anything better in Thailand.
On the plane there are a lot of men who travel alone or in small groups of friends, most of the flock, it puts a lot of sadness because it brings you into thinking that these men for a holiday in Thailand has one and only one purpose.
The Boeing 777 of Thai is nothing short of fabulous, we need to think again about the Malpensa - Bangkok and revise our judgment in the positive: we were were very happy when we went two years ago in Indonesia, but now much has changed. With the exception of the usual problems of poor space available for the legs and the limited width of the seat, (but this problem present in all economy class seems that no company wants to be overcome despite the global population continues to grow in height and in width, obese people are more and more), much has been done. The food is always of excellent quality with metal cutlery that do not break at the slightest pressure on the food, there are now dedicated screens for each passenger acted upon with an interactive remote control, as defined by the Thai, removable from the arm of the chair . You can pass the time by choosing among the countless video games and board games that can be used individually or with a traveling companion, or deciding which movie to watch among the large choice, there is also a camera placed under the plane that allows watch the take-off and landing, during the trip, unfortunately, does not work.
Eleven hours of travel, however, are many and are destroyed when we land, it is as if all of those were paths to the ground and then zipped: once on the ground all their weight come upon us between the head and neck, making us tired and lethargic, making us slaves of that feeling of rocking that looks almost like a sort of seasickness that you do not leave until after several hours.
As always happens to us when we travel to Asia, we start yesterday to arrive tomorrow, we took off at 13.50 on 16/11/06 and we landed at 06.00 the 17/11/06 or perhaps I should say the 6.00 aM How do I use here.
Once outside the airport, which has just been opened, we face the sudden heat trying not to be fooled by the swarm of taxi drivers. We find that just go downstairs to find than regular metered taxi and avoid the company "Limousine" which is very dear, and we do bring in the center of Bangkok to reach our hotel.
I enjoyed Laos alot2005-03-04 10:48:03 by wat2dowat2do
I went in 2001. Bought a "package" from a Bangkok travel agent that included visa for crossing Thai Laos border up at Chang Rai, a boat trip down the Mekong for a few days, overnight accomodation at a french owned riverbank hotel, meals and dropped us off at Luang Prabang. The travel agent also included air tickets from Luang Prabang back to BKK. Not really an organised package tour, so to speak... wonderful experience, but I would warn against hiking or travelling in the back country or in a small group. Read warnings about land crossings. Stick with an organised tour in a mainstream area.
If you're in the region anyways, tack on a few days in Siam Reap in Cambodia. You can fly in and out of BKK. It was as memorable as Laos for different reasons. (architechure vs the people)
